RV Mattress Size Guide

Sleep Dog Mattress Size Guide

*Please note: When looking for a replacement mattress it is important to know the exact measurements of your sleeping area. While most sleeper cabins accommodate standard semi-truck mattress sizes, the best and most accurate way to measure for your new mattress is to measure the width and length of your sleeper berth.

Your RV, camper, mobile home or travel trailer likely came stocked with a mattress, but that OEM mattress will not usually maintain the quality, comfort or support of a SleepDog® RV mattress. When the time comes to upgrade your over-the-road RV mattress, it is important to keep your RV or travel trailer size, your preferred mattress size, and your sleep preferences in mind. The size of your RV will most often determine the size of your mattress. Below is a guide that outlines the dimensions of three SleepDog® mattress sizes that are most compatible with recreational vehicles:

Queen Size

60" x 80"

Our queen size mattress measures 60“ wide by 80” long, standard queen size dimensions, and is a popular option we offer so that you can enjoy the comfort of your SleepDog® mattress at home as well as on the road. A standard queen size mattress is the most popular mattress size on the market, will fit in some RVs and travel trailers, and offers plenty of space to accommodate couples, families or even singles who just enjoy the extra room to move around. Our queen size mattress is available in both the SleepDog® and BigDawg® mattress options, to provide quality sleep that you already know and love.

RV Queen Size

60" x 75"

Our RV queen size mattress, measuring 60“ wide by 75” long, was developed to accommodate camper configurations, without sacrificing floor space or comfort. Available in both a 7” construction or a 9” construction, the RV queen mattress measures slightly shorter than a traditional queen, so you can still enjoy the spacious sleep of a queen mattress, without interfering with your RV living space. Like a standard queen, this mattress would be perfect for a family get-away as it can accommodate multiple people. Our SleepDog® RV queen is generally a perfect fit for the following RVs:

  • Some Newmar Bay Star Sport configurations
  • Various Tiffin Open Road Allegro configurations

California King Mattress

RV King Size

72" x 75"

The RV king mattress, measuring 72“ wide by 75” long, was developed for slightly larger camper and RV floor plans, so you can bring great sleep on the road with you. The RV king is our largest mattress size currently available, measuring just 5” shorter than a standard king while maintaining the width of a California King. The RV king size is roomy enough for a couple or even a small family to enjoy. Each person has enough room to move around and sleep in whatever position best suits their needs. The RV king is often a great upgrade for the following RVs:

  • Keystone Cougar configurations
  • Cruiser RV Radiance Travel Trailers
  • Palomino Puma 31FKRK

Which RV mattress size is right for you?

Still not sure which mattress size will best fit your RV or camper sleeping space? Then we always suggest you use a tape measure to measure your current mattress so you know exactly what size will work for your over-the-road configuration. Both of our mattress models are available in RV sizes on our online store to ensure that we meet your every sleep need, on and off the road. The BigDawg® mattress - our most popular model - measures 9” in height and is constructed with memory foam infused with CoolRest® technology and topped with a quilted foam cover for extra comfort. Our SleepDog® mattress is 7” of medium-firm memory foam, also infused with CoolRest® technology. Both mattresses are made with CertiPUR-US® certified memory foam and are DOT approved. Frequently Asked Questions

What size are most RV mattresses?

While there is no standard RV mattress size, SleepDog® offers a variety of mattress sizes to fit your RV needs, including RV queen (60” x 75”), RV King(72” x 75”) and Standard Queen (60” x 80”) sizes as these are the most common RV mattress sizes. Along with the before mentioned sizes, SleepDog® also offers four other mattresses sizes that are great for semi trucks and some smaller RVs and camper configurations. The sizes of these mattresses include: Size A (36” x 80”), Size B (39” x 80”), Size C (42” x 80”), and Size D (32” x 80”). With all over-the-road mattress purchases, it is important to measure the width, length, and height of your current mattress to ensure a proper fit prior to ordering your new SleepDog® mattress.

What is the difference between a RV mattress and a regular mattress?

RV mattresses are often lighter in weight and shorter in length than standard mattress sizes. For example, our SleepDog® RV Queen size mattress measures 60” wide by 75” long, while a traditional queen mattress measures 60” x 80”. By making the mattress shorter you still have ample space to spread out horizontally, while still being able to accommodate the often limited floor space in RV configurations.

How thick should an RV mattress be?

RV mattresses can range in thickness from 2” to 10”. Our SleepDog® mattresses range from 7” to 9” in thickness, with most of our mattress size offerings available in both profiles. SleepDog® offers two different over-the-road mattresses, the SleepDog® Mattress and BigDawg® Mattress. The SleepDog® Mattress equips you with a 7” multilayer medium-firm memory foam construction and comes in mattress sizes A, B, C, RV queen, RV king, and standard Queen. The BigDawg® Mattress is constructed with multiple layers of memory foam and a quilted foam mattress cover construction, for a total of 9” of double-sided comfort for a soft or firm feel. The BigDawg® Mattress is available in sizes, A, B, C, D, RV queen, RV king, and standard Queen.

How can I make my RV bed more comfortable?

Investing in a high quality mattress is the easiest way to make your RV bed more comfortable. An RV mattress from SleepDog® is designed to give you the best sleep possible, on and off the road. Enhancing your bed with other SleepDog® sleep essentials, like the Sleep Tite® Pr1me® Terry Protector or a Glaciertex Cooling Pillow, is another easy way to make your RV or camper sleep setup more comfortable.
