Alaska

Alaska's rest areas and welcome centers, most of which are maintained by the Alaska Department of Transportation, offer travelers, including truckers and RV enthusiasts, safe and convenient places to take a break, stretch their legs, or find essential amenities. Arizona

The Arizona Department of Transportation has some of the best rest areas in the country. At each station, you are guaranteed clean restrooms, vending machines, frequently sanitized drinking fountains, ADA-accessible parking and bathrooms, car AND truck parking, local and statewide information panels, pet exercise areas and stations, caretakers onsite 16 hours a day, and picnic areas. Arkansas

All welcome centers, rest stops, and visitor centers are run by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Rest areas are open 24 hours a day and offer clean restroom facilities and drinking water. Most have vending machines, as well. Always plan your long hauls ahead of time, as some of these locations do not have truck parking available. Some rest stops in North Carolina may offer overnight parking or 24-hour services, while others, namely welcome centers and visitor centers, may have strict closing times. North Dakota

Decreed by the governor of Ohio, 33 rest areas will receive updates by the end of 2026. Ohio is dedicated to continued and improved safety on the roads. Regularly check Ohio DOT updates to monitor construction closures. Oregon

The Oregon Travel Information Council owns 39 rest areas–all of which have restrooms. Most of these locations also have drinking water, picnic tables, and accessible facilities. Rhode Island

The state reopened an existing truck stop in 2016 after being closed for 5 years on I-95 North because it provides safe parking for truck drivers who are federally required to take rests between long hauls. Commercial truckers and drivers should be aware that Rhode Island does not have true rest areas with extensive amenities. This decision has been made based on the size of the state and the lack of need for extensive rest stops. However, TravelCenters for America has one location in West Greenwich, RI, complete with a restaurant, convenience store for truckers, laundry room, driver’s lounge, and truck services.
